Field Studies Council is an environmental education charity. Founded in 1943, Flatford Mill was the very first field centre. We are best known for providing residential field trips for those studying biology and geography. Flatford Mill is one of our most creative centre’s hosting a variety of adult leisure workshops and holidays.

Our mission is to create outstanding opportunities for everyone to learn about nature. We have a variety of centres offering creative courses:

Flatford Mill is located amidst the quintessentially English countryside of the Dedham Vale in Suffolk. The Centre is set across four buildings in beautiful Constable Country. The Mill and Willy Lott’s House are instantly recognisable since they feature in many paintings by John Constable (location of the Haywain painting)
