Zine-Making Workshop Facilitation

£200.00

Are you looking to hire facilitators to run zine-making workshops with your community group, staff, students, youth group, and more? You can book a zine-making workshop with the Coin-Operated Press now!

We are based in Edinburgh, but we can host workshops and events all across Scotland.

What is a zine? A zine is a booklet-style artwork that you make yourself, and give away, swap, or sell for the cost of printing. Zines enable adaptable learning and provide a creative outlet that can be accessed by anyone, regardless of experience or skill level. They are perfect for sharing information, art, writing, and anything you can fit on a piece of paper!

We believe everybody is an artist, and all you need are the right tools and a little encouragement to have your voice heard in our community-made zines or your own handmade publications created in our workshops.

The structure of the workshop is as follows: Set-up - we require access to the space to set up our equipment and familiarise ourselves with the space at least 30 minutes before the scheduled workshop start time. Introduction - house rules, safer Spaces agreement (also listed on our website), about Coin-Operated Press CIC. We will ask photo permission from all attendees - if they don't want their pictures to be taken/put on social media, that's absolutely fine. We are happy to email you with the photos we take after the workshop. Demonstration - we will introduce the materials we have on offer and give a demo of how to fold a Mini-Zine. We provide a Mini-Zine for people to take home with them with printed instructions on how to do this folding technique. Time to create - most of the workshop time is given to attendees to create their Mini-Zine. We like to create a calm, safe, and accessible environment for people to be creative. We can give input and instruction where needed, but this can also be a quiet time for people. We may play music during this time if people are happy for that. Wrap-up - we like to give time for participants to share what they have made, and have space to discuss the creative process. There is no pressure to share if folks are not keen. Feedback - we like to gather anonymous feedback via a paper form from workshop attendees, should they wish. We also ask attendees if they would like to join our mailing list so they can attend our future events. End of the workshop - it takes us a maximum of 30 minutes to pack down and clean up at the end of the workshop. We try to keep our workshops as accessible as possible. We encourage the use of stim tools and have a selection available if people would like to use them. We also like to have a breakout space if people would like to come and go. If another space isn't available, people can just walk around the space or step outside for a few minutes. We don't play music if people would prefer a quiet environment. We try to provide gender-neutral toilets if the venue is set up in such a way that allows it. If you have any further questions and would like to enquire about a booking, please don't hesitate to get in touch! We can be contacted via coinoperatedpress@gmail.com

What's included in the price

Our workshops are typically 2-hours but can be longer or as short as 1 hour depending on your requirements. Our facilitator fee starts from £200 after VAT which covers a 2-hour workshop in which we will travel to your location and provide all of the materials. All workshop materials are provided by us. This includes paper, scissors, glue, Sharpies, washi tape, felt pens, coloured pencils, and a large selection of collage materials, but we also encourage participants to bring their own materials if they want to add a more personal touch to their zines! We can work with you to choose a theme for the workshop, or we can select the theme based on the zine we are publishing at the time, or the theme can be completely open.
