The workshop will be held in the relaxed and friendly environment at the gorgeous Grappenhall Heyes Walled Garden, Warrington, Cheshire. Spend the day in the bright and airy schoolroom and glasshouse whilst looking out onto the spectacular gardens. On sunny days, we can get outside!
Learn the wonderful craft of upholstery (no previous experience needed) by making and upholstering a lovely footstool from scratch in one day to take home with you whilst making some new like minded friends in a relaxed, supportive and beautiful environment. The workshop is ideal for complete beginners, or for people who have tried their hand at upholstery previously and would like to expand their skills.
I will be there every step of the way to guide you and take you through the process at your pace. With such a small group, there is plenty of time for one to one discussion. Full workshop notes on techniques, tools and materials and where to buy will be provided.
After the workshop you will be able to upholster many of your own pieces at home having learned all about the tools, foams, materials, folds, finishings etc. Please feel free to contact me after the day should you need any help or guidance.During the day you will learn how to make and upholster a lovely footstool from scratch to take home with you on the day (everything will be provided for you apart from a 1-metre piece of fabric which you would need to bring with you). You will be able to choose the feet (height and style) from a selection (provided) for your footstool, and you will be able to paint or wax them in a colour/shade to complement your fabric from the wide range of beautiful colours in our chalk paint Re-Colour range/wax range. Please don’t worry if you are a complete upholstery novice! I will start from the beginning and explain all about the tools required, the materials to use, about the pros and cons of different fabrics and provide advice on the best and most competitive retailers. Alternatively, if you have dabbled a little in the wonderful craft of upholstery already, but want to develop your skills and progress to a slightly higher level, then this is the course for you. The numbers are kept small (6 to 10) to allow for one-to-one instruction for much of the time during the day. Each workshop will run from 10am to 3pm with lunch break and plenty of free coffee/tea/cake in between – my Mum’s delicious scones and gorgeous cakes are becoming rather renowned among workshop attendees! Everything you will need for the workshop will be included (apart from your fabric). I look forward to meeting you. Jo x
