Course summary: This Sewing for Beginners course is an ideal way to get into making your own garments, bags and accessories. In this warm, friendly atmosphere under the expert tuition of Bennet you will learn everything you need to know to get started on a domestic sewing machine. Through making a zip up case, you will learn all of the features of the machines and the fundamental skills and techniques in home-sewing.  The case is ideal to use as a make-up bag, sewing essential kit or even a good old-fashioned pencil case! What you will learn: How to find your way around a sewing machine, from threading it up to getting to know what it's capable of. A variety of seams and finishes, and suitability to cloth and garment. Stitching curved seams and corners. Making darts, pleats and gathers. Hemming, including double fold hem and blind hemming. How to put in a zip. Tutor biography: Graduating from the Royal College of Art in Menswear, having previously studied at the University of Brighton, London-born and Brighton based designer Bennet Loveday has always been interested in the idea that bodies aren't made equal, rather those differences should be celebrated and aims to always develop fits that flatter beyond the standard size bracket. His brand is built on an avid interest in workwear and denim. Working with reclaimed and British produced fabrics, there is also an aim to slow fashion down. As well as creating his own menswear pieces, Bennet has previously held roles within the Fashion and Textiles Department of Brighton University, as well as costume credits including Call the Midwife and London West End ballet shows.
