Join us for a relaxing day surrounded by the beautiful flowers of Pitfield Barn Cut Flower Farm and learn to harvest, prepare flowers for pressing and be inspired to create your own personalised art. The workshop starts with a demonstration, by Wendy, of the art of flower pressing, including how to select and prepare your flowers through the seasons. You will choose a variety of fresh flowers from the farm garden, to press in your personal flower press. The press and flowers will be yours to take home at the end of the day. We will also work with pre-pressed flowers which we have pressed for you. We will guide you through techniques for mounting and framing your pressed flowers, to make cards and other keepsakes. Tutor: Wendy Darby, is a qualified teacher, designer and crafter. She has had a varied and eclectic career, both nationally and internationally, which she draws upon for her crafting and design inspiration. She is also a qualified Garden Designer, encompassing the phrase ‘inspired by the Garden’ in almost everything she undertakes. Now settled in East Sussex, she enjoys sharing her interests with others. Subjects Covered:

  • How to select and harvest fresh flowers for pressing
  • Using different flower press techniques and equipment
  • How to store your pressed flower collection for later work
  • Creating and mounting pressed flower designs
Who is the course for? No experience necessary, just an interest in capturing the beauty of nature. By the end of the day, you will have:
  • created a selection of items to take home and share
  • pressed some flowers in your own press to take home
  • enjoyed refreshments and a tasty lunch in the beautiful setting of the cut flower farm
The Group: Wendy teaches in small, informal groups with a maximum of 9 people on the course. The day is very hands-on, practical and relaxed. There will also be plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings and draw inspiration from nature.
