The first 2 lessons cover the basic techniques of throwing, pinching, coiling and slab work, including rolling out. You will also learn the properties of clay and how to prepare and wedge. The 3rd week is the big make week, when everything learnt previously can be used to create a final piece. Week 4 is a glazing week using underglazes to decorate pieces then being coated in an overglaze. The group then likes to organise an evening down the Red Lion for drinks and a reveal. This is a really fun evening and often an advanced course is booked in the diary for everyone to come back and make freely using all their experiences. Some people just want to keep throwing, while others have a planned piece. People often come to my courses having never done pottery before or have maybe had a quick go, often at school. I want to teach people all the basics of clay making so that they can then make using help from my templates or experiment and develop their very own creativity. I am starting to book advanced courses too.
