Printing with a gel plate (otherwise known as monotype printing) is a super fun and easy technique. Paint is applied with a roller to a gelli surface, stencils and texture techniques produce patterns before paper is applied over the paint to make a print.
Printmaking can often require an expensive print press and oily inks. Here with the gel plate (a soft and rubbery surface) we use regular water based acrylic inks and some basic materials which can be found at home. Focus for the class is on a pattern of flowers and leaves.
In this beginners class, I’ll show examples of cards that I’ve already made. There’ll be full instruction and demonstrations throughout the workshop, plus 1:1 guidance - make it as easy or difficult as you like! You will also have ready-mixed paint colours, or you can mix your own.
All materials and equipment will be provided for you to produce a set of 10 greetings cards with envelopes, plus additional prints. There will also be an option to buy your kit should you wish to continue printing at home. Additional paper, blank cards and envelopes will also be available to purchase from me on the day.
Just bring an apron!
