    Introduction to Tie Dyeing with Karen Martin

    In this half day course, you will learn three of the numerous techniques and skills of tie-dying to create fun projects for your home.
    The class is ideal for all abilities and at the end, you will have and have made a pair of stunning tie-dye cushions to take away with you.
    Karen begins the workshop with a chat about the 3 main tie-dye techniques:
    • Spiral
    • Fold
    • Bullet.
    Karen will then model techniques for you and work with you to decide upon a suitable colour palette for your projects.
    Due to the nature of the project and the length of time needed to create patterns with dye means you have the choice of unveiling your creation at home or waiting for the following week to collect your completed cushion.

    Botanical Printmaking with Elisabeth Viguie-Culshaw

    Join us for a fantastic botanical eco printing workshop with Elisabeth Viguie-Culshaw from The Lansdowne House. Botanical Printing is the natural technique of using floral and foliage elements to create colourful marks on paper and fabric using heat and humidity. In this one day workshop, we will learn the basics of Botanical Printing, get accustomed with material, mordanting and printing, using easy to obtain Natural dyes. We’ll start the morning by learning how to prepare our materials as our first botanical bundles go in the dying pots, and we’ll make mirror image prints onto fabrics. After a break for lunch in the garden, we will start to use the dye pots from earlier to create beautiful prints on both paper and fabrics in beautiful shades of green and blue.

    Introduction to Natural Dyeing

    6 hour ‘Introduction to Natural Dyeing’ workshop, 10am-4pm, Mere, Wiltshire.

    Learn the alchemy and magic of extracting colour from plants in this relaxed and informative workshop.

    What’s included

    The workshop includes 6 hours of guided tuition, which includes all the necessary materials and equipment including aprons and gloves.

    You will be given your own clear workshop handouts to take away with you.

    Teas, coffee and biscuits will be available all day. Please bring a packed lunch with you.

    What to expect

    The workshop will teach you the basic principles and practice of natural dyeing using traditional, kitchen and foraged dye-stuffs. There will also be an introduction to indigo and over dyeing.

    Spaces are limited to ensure you receive as much guidance as you need, and all learning is supported with a clear handout of notes which are yours to take home.

    This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those that have a little experience who would like some more practical guidance.

    Natural dyeing starter kits will be available for you to purchase at the end of the workshop for £35. These include all the ingredients you’ll need to start dyeing at home.

    ABOUT YOUR TUTOR

    Claudia is a natural dyer and retired teacher who has been professionally dyeing yarns for Elka Textiles for many years. She has a keen interest in the science of natural dyeing, as well as delighting in the colours that emerge from the dye pot.

This is an introduction or refresher workshop which will provide you with the core skills needed for you to build upon and develop in your own time.     Natural Dyes Cellulose Fibres – Introduction – 1 Day

    We start the day at 10.00am with tea & coffee. The first 15 minutes of each workshop is reserved to understanding the workshop Health and Safety requirements.
    Our workshops aim to finish at 16.30 hours, with a half hour for lunch.
    All equipment and materials you need are provided. This includes all the fabrics you need to learn natural dyeing, gloves and an apron. A notebook is also included for you to start
    your own Dye Reference record. By providing all you need, we hope that it will help you concentrate on the workshop and learn as much as you can.
    After the Health and Safety requirements, there will be an introduction to the techniques and methods of natural dyeing, how to prepare cellulose fibres for dyeing, resist techniques
    and the vibrant colours that can be achieved with professional natural dye extracts.
    Using a variety of sizes of fabrics, handkerchiefs, napkins, scarves and shawls, you will learn the different ways natural dyes can be applied to yarn to create striking effects.
